The LTSU continues to ask that La Trobe University remove the rule disallowing staff Advocates who happen to have law degrees attend formal meetings with the students they are supporting.
As two Advocates have law degrees, this rule only hampers students causing further distress for them at an already vulnerable time. In January 2023 alone, Advocacy attended 28 formal Unsatisfactory Progress, Academic Integrity, and Appeal meetings - this has all had to be managed by one staff member.
On the 15 September 2022, the university confirmed this rule would change imminently. Since then, there have been no developments, no timetable, and no updates from you despite repeated requests to you from the LTSU. To note, the University of Melbourne, Sydney and Deakin amongst many other universities do not have this rule.
