Oxfam La Trobe was established in 2013 and has grown to become an embraced NGO presence on the Bundoora campus. The club links to Oxfam groups at other universities as well as Oxfam Australia.

Oxfam La Trobe is an open and inclusive student group which welcomes students from all walks of life. Being a culturally diverse group with a large international student membership gives us a greater range of ideas and contextual understandings which we hope will make our social justice events interesting, engaging and meaningful for the La Trobe student community.

Oxfam La Trobe has four key practical purposes:

  1. To act as a bridge between the LTU student community and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). In doing so, the group aims to help students become involved in volunteering, internships and other vocational pathways within these sectors.

  2. To collaborate with La Trobe University, particularly in relation to the Student Enrichment Centre. Oxfam LTU also hopes to build a strong relationship with La Trobe’s Institute for Human Security to open up internship and research opportunities for students.

  3. To coordinate with the Oxfam Australia Office in order to contribute to Oxfam Campaigns. In 2015 some campaigns include:
    • OXJAM
    • GROW

  4. To collaborate on events, fundraise and share resources and volunteers with the La Trobe University Social Justice League: a collection of socially-minded La Trobe students who have an interest in social justice, human rights, environmental sustainability and social change.
