About the LTSU Scholarship Program

La Trobe University Student Union (LTSU) is committed to providing support to assist students in the successful completion of their studies.  The 2016 LTSU Scholarships will help more students than ever to cope with the costs associated with studying. 

Scholarships
Gold Scholarships - 5 available - $1,500 value
  • $1500 cash to assist with the payment of conference/workshop/membership fees (including gym membership), study support, including for purchase of textbooks (new or second hand), specialist equipment, purchase of computing devices/software, printing and stationery supplies, or any other sundry items as the student sees fit. 
  • Note: Gold Scholarships only available to students who can prove financial hardship. See Eligibility for more information.
Silver Scholarships - 3 available - $1,200 value
  • $1200 cash to assist with the payment of conference/workshop/membership fees (including gym membership), study support, including for purchase of textbooks (new or second hand), specialist equipment, purchase of computing devices/software, printing and stationery supplies, or any other sundry items as the student sees fit. 
Bronze Scholarships - 3 available - $800 value
  • $800 cash to assist with the payment of conference/workshop/membership fees (including gym membership), study support, including for purchase of textbooks (new or second hand), specialist equipment, purchase of computing devices/software, printing and stationery supplies, or any other sundry items as the student sees fit. 
Study Subsidies - 10 available - $150 value
10 x $150 subsidies will be awarded to students who demonstrate engagement in and commitment to student life but are not successful in winning a major scholarship.
  • $150 cash to assist with the payment of conference/workshop/membership fees (including gym membership), study support, including for purchase of textbooks (new or second hand), specialist equipment, purchase of computing devices/software, printing and stationery supplies, or any other sundry items as the student sees fit.

Eligibility
Eligibility is as follows:
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as La Trobe University student (Bundoora, Mildura or Shepparton campuses only) at time of application and at the time of expected collection of scholarship prizes.  
  • Applicants must be able to produce evidence of current & future enrolment before they can claim their scholarship. To draw full value from the scholarships you will therefore need to return to study at La Trobe University in 2017, or the 2016/17 summer semester or both.
  • Applicants must be current LTSU members (excluding eligible Gold scholarship applicants).
  • Applicants cannot be currently studying with La Trobe Melbourne (Diploma/Navitas).
  • Gold Scholarship only - Application must be accompanied with documentation to prove financial hardship, including but not limited to Centrelink statements, bank statements or a “Statement Regarding Personal Disadvantage” and a signed Statutory Declaration. Students applying for Gold Scholarships are not required to be members of the LTSU.

Selection Criteria
The LTSU Scholarships are awarded to students who are passionate about their studies & the La Trobe student community and who actively strive to improve the student experience for others. Applications should demonstrate that a student:
  • Possesses a passion for their field of study and demonstrates active engagement in pursuing their chosen field. (ie:  provide examples of extra-curricular commitments through your school, involvement in a Faculty Society, membership of industry or professional bodies, volunteering or mentoring in your field, attending extra-curricular conferences/workshops)
  • Is actively involved in the La Trobe student community through involvement with special university programs, clubs and societies or other student experience programs or initiatives. This is very broad and includes a variety of possibilities, so please be creative and mention as many things as possible!
  • Has broader community involvement beyond La Trobe University and is a leader in the community.
  • Meets scholarship eligibility criteria
  • Should be able or willing to attend the LTSU Awards night from 7pm, Thursday 13 October 2016 to receive their scholarship.
Will be able to use the scholarship in order to continue to be engaged in their studies and campus life. How will this scholarship help you in your unique circumstances?

Application Process

Step 1: Online Application
  • Complete an online application form (access until 5pm September 30th, 2016). Applications received after the closing date – 5pm Friday September 30th 2016 – and incomplete applications will not be able to be considered.
  • Attach other supporting documentation including letters of support from fellow students, lecturers, supervisorw or other.
  • Gold prize only - Application must be accompanied with documentation to prove financial hardship, including but not limited to Centrelink statements, bank statements or a “Statement Regarding Personal Disadvantage” and a signed Statutory Declaration. Students applying for the gold scholarship are not required to be members of the LTSU.
APPLICATIONS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS ARE CLOSED
Step 2: 
Applications will be reviewed by the LTSU Scholarship panel and all applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application via email.  Scholarships will be formally presented at the Annual LTSU Awards night (Thursday 13 October 2016) and winners are required to attend.
 
Step 3:
Applicants must redeem their Scholarship within 1 year of winning it from the LTSU Office, Upper Agora West (Level 2), La Trobe University Bundoora campus.

T&C's of Scholarships
Incomplete or late scholarship applications will not be considered. Decisions made by the Scholarships panel are final and cannnot be contested. Any applicant found to have misrepresented their eligibility or having falsified their application will forfeit any scholarships owed to them and will be asked to repay any scholarship money paid to them. Successful applicants will be required to produce evidence of current and future enrolment before they can redeem scholarship. Scholarship benefits may be used at the discretion of the scholarship recipient, but it is encouraged that the scholarships be used for costs associated with study such as textbooks, equipment and related expenses. Scholarship applicants must be able to attend the LTSU Awards night on Thursday 13th October 2016. Awards can be claimed any time between the date the scholarship winners are announced and the end of the December 2017 - scholarships must be claimed in total within 1 year. Lost or stolen vouchers or components of the Award are the responsibility of the winner and cannot be replaced by LTSU.
