Botany and Plant Ecology Society brings together students interested in botany and any aspects of plant ecology, be it agriculture or conservation. The main aim of the club is to promote students' learning in those areas (expanding on knowledge and skills gained through coursework) by facilitating volunteering opportunities, and organizing workshops and citizen science projects with help and under guidance of academic staff of La Trobe University (for example organizing field trips to survey plant biodiversity and collect specimens for the La Trobe University Herbarium). The society also aims to organize events to raise awareness of local conservation issues as well as to increase knowledge of the biodiversity of native flora and promote appreciation of its beauty. This we hope to achieve by organizing talks, workshops, citizen science projects, guided bush walks, photography exhibitions etc. Everyone with interest in plants is welcome to join our Facebook group with the same name.
